ECB - MC Synergy
Hello again!
In this article we are going a little deeper in the ECB - MC Synergy topic. This synergy is one of the most important one you have during your term and this is why you should give a little extra attention to it!
Let’s break it down and see what are some of the things that you should do in order to perform together with your MC.
Become best friends with your MC responsible
It is mandatory that every ECB Chair has an MC Responsible (MCER) to work directly with them. This is the main person that you should contact regularly. The role of the MCER is to be the liaison between the MC team and ECB team. Make sure that the two of you have regular touchpoints where you discuss what is happening both in the ECB and in the MC. Your MCER should support you with the selection of your team, your planning, the relationship with the other MC members as well as the plenary, and other ad-hoc needs.
Have close contact with the rest of the MC
Your MCER is not the only person from the MC that you should talk to. Your other synergies should include the MCP, the MCVPs Operations, and the MCVP Finance. Those people have direct contact with the exchanges that the entity runs and, therefore, should be constantly aware of the changes that are happening from the ECB side, and any financial compensations or needs related.
Include the MC in your planning and vice-versa
It is mandatory that the MC includes the ECB in their planning. They should be aware of the ECB as an independent body that is there to support them and give the best advice, in order for the processes to run smoothly and without any complications. The ECB should have dedicated spaces during national touchpoints (network calls, summits, conferences, etc.) and the MC is responsible for providing these spaces.
As the ECB chair, you should make sure that you proactively demand and track each of these touchpoints. There are a few things you could also do for a better synergy:
- Allocate enough time. Don’t rush your calls, make sure you have plenty of time to discuss each topic.
- Find a suitable hour for both you and the person that you are having the call with. Even if time zones can be difficult at times, make sure you are as fresh as possible for your calls.
- Have an agenda. Discuss a meeting agenda before having the actual call. Stick to talking about all the subjects.
- Have clear next steps after each synergy touchpoint. Make sure that after each call both you and the MC members have some tasks to stick to until the next touchpoint.
- Write some meeting minutes in a shared cloud file and go back to it in monthly and quarterly reviews.
This is everything we could think of but it’s not everything there is. Let your creativity and innovation run loose, and approach your Coach if you need any help or have any GCP to share :D
